Making a basic pasta recipe is easy and versatile. Here's a simple recipe for a classic pasta dish:

**Ingredients:**

- 8 ounces (about 225 grams) of pasta (spaghetti, fettuccine, penne, or any other type you prefer)

- 1-2 tablespoons salt (for boiling water)

- 2 tablespoons olive oil

- 3-4 garlic cloves, minced

- 1 can (14 ounces) crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce

- 1 teaspoon dried oregano

- 1 teaspoon dried basil

- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional, for some heat)

- Salt and pepper to taste

- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional, for garnish)

- Fresh basil leaves (optional, for garnish)

**Instructions:**

1. **Cook the Pasta:**

   - Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Add 1-2 tablespoons of salt to the boiling water.

   - Add the pasta to the boiling water and cook according to the package instructions until al dente (cooked but still firm to the bite).

   - Drain the pasta in a colander and set aside. Reserve a small cup of pasta cooking water if needed later.

2. **Prepare the Sauce:**

   - In a large skillet or saucepan, heat the olive oil over medium heat.

   - Add the minced garlic to the hot oil and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic.

3. **Add Tomatoes and Seasonings:**

   - Pour in the crushed tomatoes or tomato sauce and stir well.

   - Add the dried oregano, dried basil, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Mix everything together.

4. **Simmer the Sauce:**

   - Reduce the heat to low and let the sauce simmer for about 10-15 minutes, stirring occasionally. This allows the flavors to meld and the sauce to thicken slightly.

5. **Combine Pasta and Sauce:**

   - Add the cooked pasta to the sauce and toss well to coat the pasta evenly with the sauce. If the sauce seems too thick, you can add a little of the reserved pasta cooking water to reach your desired consistency.

6. **Serve:**

   - Divide the pasta into serving plates or bowls.

   - Garnish with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh basil leaves, if desired.

7. **Enjoy Your Homemade Pasta:**

   - Serve the pasta immediately while it's hot, and enjoy your delicious homemade pasta dish!

This basic pasta recipe is a great starting point, and you can customize it by adding cooked vegetables, grilled chicken, shrimp, or any other ingredients you like. Feel free to get creative and make the pasta dish your own!
